WHAT TO SEE IN ATHENS
Athens is full of historic sites and attractions, it is beyond doubt that the Acropolis gets the most attention from the visitors in the city.  Housing the ruins of several famous ancient buildings and temples, the Acropolis Hill commands a view of the entire city and its other places of interest, among them the Ancient Agora, the Plaka district and the Lycabettus Hill. One immediately sees that Athens is a city to be explored on foot.
The New Acropolis Museum, the National Museum, the National Gardens, the Agora, the Temple of Zeus, the Parliament building and the Panathinaikon Stadium, are some of the attractions in this city.

MONEY
Most banks will exchange foreign currency and are open Monday to Tursday 08:00-14:30hrs and on Friday from 08:00-14:00hrs. In addition to local banks, many major international banks have branches or representative offices in Greece.

SHOPPING
Shopping hours are normally 09.00-15.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Saturdays.  09.00-13.30, 17.30-20.30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and
Fridays. On Sundays most of the shops are closed, except those in tourist
areas.

EATING OUT
There is an amazing choice of places to eat in Greece to suit every taste and budget. And so one can enjoy a filling meal of souvlaki, delicious fish in one of the fish taverns or various kinds of meat grilled on charcoal and served by countless grill restaurants. Typical Greek eateries provide a friendly and informal atmosphere, and often as not a meal is combined with live music. Some places cater mostly to tourists, while other play host to a buzzing mix of locals and travelers. Along with local food, cuisine of just about every nation is available in Athens and other big cities.

TRANSPORTATION IN ATHENS
Athens suffers from heavy traffic but even so, hiring a car is an option because car parking is plentiful within the city. Public transport is inexpensive and reliable in Athens, especially the excellent Metro service.

WEATHER
Greece enjoys a Mediterranean climate, so the greatest amount of rain occurs from mid-October to mid-April, but thanks to the mountains it stays drier than other cities in Mediterranean Europe.

LANGUAGE
Greek is the official language of the country. Greece has been an EU member for years, so Greek is among the EU’s official languages, having introduced for the first time a new alphabet in the Union (besides the Latin alphabet). At a regional level, Greek is minority language in parts of Albania, Turkey and Italy.
